Umbro was the first manufacturer Chelsea partnered with in 1975, a partnership which lasted for six years (1975 - 1981) before another supplier took over in 1981. Umbro returned in 1987 as kit manufacturer the second time. The deal lasted for 9 years (1987 - 2006) The remainder of the contract was bought by Chelsea for the sum of £24.5 million.
Le Coq Sportif took over from Umbro in 1981 and they supplied Chelsea kit from 1981 - 1986. In 1986, Chelsea FC became the first football club to produce her own kits under the name Chelsea Collection. The club produced her own kits between 1986 and 1987 after which they signed another deal with Umbro in 1987.
In 2006 - 2017, Chelsea signed a deal with Adidas as their new kit manufacturer, a deal which lasted for 11 years. In 2017, Nike became the official Kit supplier for the club, in a 15 year deal worth £900 million to produce kits for men's, women's and academy teams and also apparel for Chelsea's supporters (www.chelseafc.com/en/nike).
